Karen Heagle
|
Karen Heagle lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She was born in Tomah, Wisconsin, and grew up on a dairy farm. Heagle is a master of lush, vividly colorful quirk paintings, and her artwork is in the MOMA collection.
Heagle earned her MFA at Pratt Institute (1995) and attended Skowhegan two years later. Since then she has produced three solo exhibitions. “Puritans Perverts and Feminists” was her first show that took place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (2001). The show utilized an essay by Dorothy Allison recounting her science fiction based sexual fantasies, calling for an expansion of the feminist imagination. Heagle’s most recent solo show, “Strictly Naturals,” inaugurated I-20 Gallery’s new gallery in Chelsea in 2006. The theme of the show surrounded nature and eroticism. Heagle’s work appeared recently in “Panic Room” at the Deste Foundation of Contemporary Art in Athens, Greece last summer.
