HLP--At HIV Law Project, we take the time with each client to unpack the complexity of barriers and pressures in their lives. In this way, we are able to help lift them out of the vicious cycle of poverty and ill-health.

Direct Legal Services

HIV Law Project provides free civil legal services to HIV-positive residents in Manhattan and the Bronx through an integrated, general practice service delivery model. Experienced and seasoned legal staff provide clients with a range of legal services, including intake and assessment, advice and consultation, brief service and advocacy, out-of-court settlement negotiations, document preparation, and full representation in court or at administrative hearings.

Program Highlights

Handling over 20,000 individual legal cases in wide range of legal areas, including housing and eviction prevention, immigration law, public and private benefit and health insurance issues, discrimination and HIV-related confidentiality issues, last wills and testaments and advanced planning, debtor/creditor law, and family law issues;
Serving approximately 1,000 clients each year
